Longship Fund III invests in Onsagers

Longship Fund III (“Longship”) has entered into an agreement to acquire (60%) of the shares in Onsagers AS. Onsagers is the leading IP law firm and IP management consulting firm in Norway, with a particularly strong position in consulting related to patents, trademarks and the use of intellectual assets. The investment is made from Longship Fund III and establishes a partnership between Longship, partners and the employees of Onsagers. Employees will own (40%) of the shares after the transaction.

Onsagers is the clear market leader in the Norwegian IP market operating from offices in Oslo, Tromsø and Bergen as well as Sweden, Germany and UK. The ambition is to further strengthen this position and create a leading Nordic IP law firm and IP management consulting firm with a strong presence in the rest of Europe. With Longship as a new co-owner, Onsagers is even better equipped to continue investing in people, solutions and systems, to become a progressive company for national and international clients, where the tradition of IP excellence and integrity is continued.

“We are impressed with Onsagers and look forward to supporting them as a financial and strategic partner in their journey towards becoming an even stronger international player,” says Bernt Østhus, partner in Longship. “A key factor behind Onsagers’ success is the impressive calibre of its people, which enables the company to be a holistic advisor in all matters related to patents, trademarks and other intellectual assets. We wish to continue and strengthen this competitive advantage through our ownership together with existing owners and employees. There is already fierce competition to become part of Onsagers and we always welcome the best talents in the industry.”

CEO of Onsagers, Morten Hatlem, shares this vision: “We are delighted that Longship is stepping in as our partner to support our further venture. Our focus will continue to be our clients, and our highest priority will always be to deliver holistic IP advice of the highest quality. Following a steady development over the last years, we at Onsagers are very enthusiastic about having a partner of such substance and experience as Longship. We have also come to know our new partner as truly committed and interested in our journey forward.”

“Our common ambition is for Onsagers to continue to be ‘the place to be’ for the best IP consultants, and with Longship as a co-owner, we open up for a wider ownership among employees making us an even more attractive workplace,” adds chairperson of Onsagers, Harald Reigstad.
